Heller 81012 Maille Breze

Maille-Breze (D627) was a French destroyer from the post-war period. The vessel was launched in 1954, and it entered service in the French Marine Nationale in 1957. The total length of the ship at the time of launching was 128.6 meters, width 12.7 meters. Full displacement reached approx. 3,750 tons, and maximum speed - approx. 34 knots. The on-board armament of the unit at the time of launching included: 6 127 mm guns, 6 57 mm guns and 12 550 mm torpedo tubes.

Maille-Breze was one of the destroyers belonging to the T-47 class (sometimes referred to as the Surcouf class). The decision to build this class of ships was made in 1949, when the French Navy received financial resources to create a uniform and possibly modern class of destroyers. These actions were aimed at replacing the units from the World War II period in the line - both own production and those received as part of the reparations of German units. T-47 units, including the Maille-Breze, were primarily designed to cover convoys and as escort units to provide cover against air attacks and attacks by enemy surface ships. In the years 1968-1971, Maille-Breze, along with four other destroyers of its class, underwent modernization consisting in: strengthening the ZOP (anti-submarine) armaments, changing the artillery armament, and adding a towed sonar in the stern. Destroyer Maille-Breze was decommissioned in 1988 and converted into a museum ship.
