The Curtiss SBC-4 is an American biplane dive bomber with a full metal structure, with the exception of the lower wing and the canvas-covered, half-shell duralumin ailerons. The crew consisted of two people - a pilot and a navigator. The flight of the prototype took place in 1935, and after numerous changes, including the 966KM Wright R-1820-34 engine, the plane entered service in 1937. From mid-1937, the planes were directed to the US Navy and US Marine Corps. They were stationed on aircraft carriers USS "Yorktown", USS "Saratoga", USS "Enterprise" and USS "Lexington", but were quickly withdrawn to training units in the state of Florida. A small number of them were sent to Great Britain, where they were designated as Curtiss Cleveland Mk.I. Throughout their entire service, they were used only as training aircraft.
